Professor Paulo Martins

Paulo Martins is full professor of manufacturing at Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, Portugal. He obtained a PhD in mechanical engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico in 1991, the habilitation in mechanical engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico in 1999 and the degree of Doctor Technices honoris causa from the Technical University of Denmark in 2018. He is Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), member of the Standing Advisory Board of ICTP – The International Conference on Technology of Plasticity and received The (JSTP) Japan Society for Technology of Plasticity International Prize for R&D in Precision Forging in 2021. He was president of the scientific board of Instituto Superior Técnico from 2009 to 2012 and president of the school council of Instituto Superior Técnico from 2017 to 2020. His research interests are focused on metal forming and joining by forming technologies and he is co-author of six books, several international patents and more than 400 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and outstanding conferences.

Professor Francisco Chinesta
Professor Francisco Chinesta

Francisco Chinesta is currently full Professor of computational physics at ENSAM Institute of Technology (Paris, France), Honorary Fellow of the “Institut Universitaire de France” – IUF- and Fellow of the Spanish Royal Academy of Engineering. He was (2008-2012) AIRBUS Group chair professor and since 2013 he is ESI Group chair professor on advanced modeling and simulation of materials, structures, processes and systems. He received many scientific awards (among them the IACM -International Association of Computational Mechanics- Zienkiewicz award (New York, 2018), the ESAFORM award, …) in four different fields: bio-engineering, material forming processes, rheology and computational mechanics, with major contributions in Model Order Reduction and Engineered Artificial Intelligence. He is author of more than 350 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and more than 900 contributions in conferences. He was president of the French association of computational mechanics (CSMA) and is director of the CNRS research group (GdR) on model order reduction techniques in engineering sciences, editor and associate editor of many journals. He received many distinctions, among them the Academic Palms, the French Order of Merit, … in 2018 the Doctorate Honoris Causa at the University of Zaragoza (Spain) and in 2019 the Silver medal from the French CNRS.

Professor Fernando Mas

Fernando Mas obtained his engineering degree at the University of Sevilla and a Ph.D. in Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. He has been Senior Expert in Virtual Product Engineering in Airbus Defense & Space, Chief Technical Officer (CTO) in COMLUX Aviation, LLC in Indianapolis (USA), and is currently CTO in M&M Group in Cadiz (Spain).
Throughout his career in Airbus he was involved, among others, in projects for the automation of Sheet Metal Forming (Cadiz) and High-Speed Milling processes (Sevilla), the deployment of Concurrent Engineering for the design and manufacture of A330, A380, and A400M aircrafts, and the deployment of the latest technologies on virtual tools (iDMU, Virtual Manufacturing, and Simulations) in the A400M Final Assembly Line in Sevilla. He was Senior Advisor for the Advanced Digital Design and Manufacturing (ADAM) project in the Silicon Valley Innovation Center of Airbus, CA (USA) from 2015 to 2017, and was responsible in Europe for Manufacturing research and deployment in the Digital Design, Manufacturing & Services (DDMS) project in 2017. His current research interests are focused on Models for Manufacturing (MfM), Virtual Engineering & Manufacturing, Digital Factory, PLM, KBE, and Information System Modeling. He co-authored several international patents and more than 70 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and outstanding conferences.
